Weslo Cadence G 5.9 Treadmill review

Made for running?

We did write a review on the Weslo Cadence G 5.9 treadmill model where we gave it an overall rating. If interested, find it here.

From time to time we receive specific questions asking our opinion. We received a question from a husband and wife about using this Weslo G 5.9 model as a dedicated running treadmill. Also, how fast of a pace it would provide.

The simple answer: The treadmill motor of this model at it’s maximum setting can turn the tread belt at a rate equal to 10 MPH. This is equal to running a 6 minute mile.

Considering this model is very inexpensive, not too shabby, right?

Good for dedicated runners?

Although we do give this model a good rating in our review, we base the rating while considering, low cost vs. value provided.

Yes, for the price it’s a quality home treadmill to own but its not what we would recommend if someone asked for  suggestions on a good running treadmill to buy.

While it’s true the motor can produce a speed of 10 MPH (6 minute mile pace) but in our opinion this is a little bit misleading.

It’s misleading because the motor is small (it’s not a bad motor) its only 2.25 horsepower. For a certain amount of time it may work for running. But we guarantee if it’s always turned up to the highest speed this motor is not going to last.

Don’t get us wrong the Weslo Cadence G 5.9 treadmill has a decent motor. It is a CHP (continuous duty motor) and this is definitely the type you want to look for when buying a treadmill.

However, with that said, no we don’t recommend this model for runners. If you needed an inexpensive model for walking or maybe light jogging then we would recommend at least checking this model out.

Note: Buying a high quality running treadmill for you home will more than likely require spending some cash (a lot). These need to be built extra durable, with extra cushion, longer tracks and larger motors. What we would consider really super nice quality starts at around $2000 but can go to $8000+.

There are less expensive models we would recommend but these do also cost more than the Weslo Cadence G 5.9. You may find some useful recommendations here. As a rue of thumb we would not go lower than a 3.0 CHP motor (3 horsepower).
