GoPlus 800W Folding Treadmill Review – Good for Running?

by Jack on March 23, 2017

If you are interested in the GoPlus 800W folding treadmill there are some things you need to understand before spending your money on it. This is our opinion on who this would be a good choice for and also who would be wasting their money.

We will review the core features of this machine here but there is something we first want to mention.

The most important thing, how the advertising reads. When we researched this model online, we read the words, “Fitness Running Machine” in the advertising of this GoPlus treadmill.

Is it good for running

If you are a person looking for an inexpensive solution for running at home then the GoPlus 800W folding treadmill model may have caught your eye.

Especially when you read the words, “Fitness Running machine” on its sales page description. At least this is how it reads at Amazon.

There are a lot of different treadmill review sites, forum or you can always call a local sporting goods store to ask, this is the advice we give when to people asking for information on the criteria for good treadmill they can run on.

The first thing you will want to look at is the size (horsepower) of the motor. As a rule of thumb a 2.5 horsepower motor is the smallest motor we would recommend to a person planning to run on a regular basis. Anything less powerful than this is going to burn out fast when using it on the top speed settings to exercise.

Watt vs Horsepower (hp)

If you have read over the description or looked into the specifications of this GoPlus 800W treadmill you likely didn’t find information on how much horsepower the motor provides.

Some people may know this, some may not, the 800W (Watt) in this products name is the unit of power used to describe the strength of the motor’s output.

A single Watt is a lot smaller than a single unit of horsepower.

800 Watts is equal to just about 1.0 horsepower. As we mentioned above, the lowest amount of horsepower we would recommend for running is 2.5 horsepower. Since this treadmill’s motor only provides 1.0 horsepower we can not recommend this treadmill to any who wants a machine to run on.

Another Hindrance

Besides the lack of power provided by the motor, another specification you want to look at is the width of the tread belt. The platform you will be exercising on is only 14 inches in width. This is very narrow for running.

If you are planning to run we would recommend a tread belt that is at least around 20-inches in width. As we said this model only provides 14-inches of width not only will this be a hindrance for runners it could also be a safety issue.

But how fast will it go – Recommended use

The specifications of the GoPlus 800W treadmill state this model is capable of speeds between 0.5 – 6.5 MPH.

So if you run this treadmill at its top speed (6.5 MPH) this would be equal to a 9 minutes and 23 second mile.

The average walking speed of a human is around 3.1 MPH so the 6.5 MPH this treadmill provides is faster than most people can walk.

Th average jogging speed for a human is right around 6.5 MPH.

So, the only people we could recommend the GoPlus 800W to are people who either want to exercise by walking or jogging, this would not be a go buy for a person who wants to run.

If you do not find an answer to your specific questions, leave it in our comment section and we will get back to you.

This is not a treadmill that allows you to press a up or down button to incline the platform as you are working out. Although it does sit a slight incline.

Does it require assembly?

Yes, it’s a three part assembly which is fairly easy and good directions are provided. Assembly basically involves a few screws to connect different parts of the treadmill.

Does it fold?

Does the center console provide push button speed controls (increase/decrease)?

Yes, you can control the speed of the treadmill from the buttons on the center console.

Final thoughts – GoPlus 800w folding treadmill

One of the most commonly asked questions about the GoPlus 800w model is whether or not this would make a good home treadmill for runners.

Reading reviews of this model online we have read many opposing views on this subjects.

Our opinion, no, you can not run on this treadmill.

Some people may disagree with my thoughts. But what I have to say,the GoPlus 800W has a top speed of 6.5 miles per hour. If set at top speed this would be equivalent to around a 9 and a half minute mile.

Some owners have recommended not to set the treadmill at its top speed because they have experience some problems with the motor.

Some people might consider a 9 and a half minute mile as running. But any person who regularly trains this is nothing more than a light jog.

The GoPlus 800W is a lower end treadmill. It could be a solution for people who want to exercise by walking, maybe, occasionally jogging but as far as it being a “running machine” as the product description proclaims, we completely disagree.
