Horizon Fitness Elite T7 Treadmill Review

Includes a 0-15% Incline

A very common obstacle for¬†people is many times it’s their first time buying a treadmill so they simply don’t know what to look for when judging quality. Also adding to this problem is there are so many different models to choose from at every price point.

When asking people how they came to their final decision we often hear things like, “I thought it was a trusted brand name.”, “A salesperson recommended the model.” or “It came with a certain feature or accessory.”.

The problem with these avenues, even trusted brand names sometimes produce undesirable treadmill models, many salespeople are not knowledgeable and buying a machine based on what extra accessory it may have is a terrible way to make a decision on quality.

How to make an informed decision

Using the Horizon Fitness Elite T7 Treadmill, below we will go through the 5 most important features to look at and also how to judge the quality of each. What you learn here, you will be able to apply to judging any model.

#1 – The Motor

Obviously, the motor is an extremely important part of a treadmill. When looking over the motor specifications there are two main areas of concern. These are:

  • Type of motor
  • Amount of horsepower provided

There are a few different types or styles of motors installed on treadmills, by far and away, the Continuous Duty Rated Horsepower (CHP) motor is the most efficient and durable motor and the only type we recommend buying.

Considerations around horsepower. This will be most important for people buying a home treadmill to run on. If this describes your exercise plans then we recommend buying a model with a motor that provides at least 2.5 horsepower. Small motors will tend to be overloaded by runners and will have a tendency to breakdown.

Good for running at home (12 MPH)

Now that we have told you what to look for in a motor, you are probably wondering what this the Horizon Fitness Elite T7 treadmill has under the hood. This treadmill model has the right type (CHP) and provides 2.75 horsepower.

#2 – The Frame

Not the most exciting feature to talk about, however, the frame is a very important piece of the puzzle when determining the overall quality. Think about how important a frame is to a house, building and car. It is no different here.

The frame plays a significant role in determining the maximum user weight capacity, stability, durability, comfort and even how quiet (or noisy) the machine will be.

What types of frames will you come across?

For the most part there are two types of frames. These are those made from steel and those made from aluminum. We recommend buying a model which has a frame made from steel.

This Horizon Fitness treadmill is made from steel. The maximum user weight capacity of this model is 350 pounds. This is a very good rating compared to similarly priced models.

The main reason we recommend a steel frame over aluminum, steel fits together tighter which reduces the overall noise of the machine when in use and steel is more comfortable to run on since it transfers energy better compare to the more rigid aluminum.

#3 – Tread Belt

The tread belt is where you will be exercising. The main concern here are the dimensions of the belt and whether or not these will provide you with enough room to comfortably exercise.

If you only plan to walk or jog then we would suggest making sure the belt provides at least 48 inches in length. However, if you do plan to run on your treadmill we suggest at least 54 inches in length.

The Horizon Fitness Elite T7 has a tread belt which provides 60 inches of length. This beats many treadmills in its price range.

#4 – Cushion System

It’s the “Variable Response Cushioning System“, overall we do believe this system is effective at reducing stress on joints. With that said, finding the perfect cushion system depending a lot on each individuals specific body mechanics.

#5 – Warranty

Although not a functional part, the warranty can tell you much about the quality of the treadmill. The quality is proven when the company is willing to provide the level of warranty that shows they stand behind their product. To understand this you should look at the warranties offered on other treadmills in the same price range. If the model you are interested in buying provides a lesser warranty on average compared to what other models provide then you should question the quality of the model.

The warranty of the Horizon Elite T7 Fitness treadmill provides:

  • Lifetime on frame and motor
  • 5 year on parts
  • 1 year on labor

This is very comparable to the other top models in its price range. It does demonstrate the company confident in the quality of their machine.

Final Decision

Since prices do change we will not guarantee any price here in our review. But if you do find the Horizon Elite T7 treadmill been sold at a price you can afford we would recommend comparing it to other models that you may be considering.

We didn’t go into detail here about any of the accessories or extra functions. To touch briefly, it is a folding model and also has a 0-15% Incline controlled at the center console and if you are a person who needs help with your exercising it includes something like 45 different built-in programs. These are only a few of the extras included with this home model.
