Is the Xterra Fitness TR6.6 Treadmill a good choice for running

by Jack on July 5, 2016

Question: Ask by a person looking to buy a running treadmill for home asked if the Xterra Fitness TR6.6 Treadmill was a good choice for running.

Answer: In our opinion the two most important features to judge when deciding whether or not any model is a good choice for running are the motor size and the length of the tread belt.

How does this model rate in these two categories?

Good for running?

Motor: With the motor there are two attributes you will want to look for which should be easily found in the product description on a sales page (See Amazon’s) or in the specifications at the company’s website.

The first thing you will want to find is the style of motor. There are a few different styles of treadmill motors. You will want to buy a model with a Continuous Duty Rating (CHP) as these are the must durable and efficient.

The second thing you will want to know is the size or horsepower (hp) of the motor. For running the absolute smallest amount of hp we recommend is 2.5 hp.

Does the Xterra Fitness TR6.6 Treadmill pass the motor inspection? Yes, it includes a 3.0 CHP.

Tread belt length: Compared to when we walk or jog our stride length increases as we begin to run. So it is very important to have a tread belt that is able to comfortably accommodate this increase in stride length. As a rule of thumb, the absolute minimum length we would recommend a person buy is 54-55 inches. We base this on data for the average running stride length of a human.

Does the Xterra Fitness TR6.6 Treadmill pass the tread belt length inspection? Yes, the length here is 60-inches.

Further opinion: For 2016, in our opinion, this treadmill model is one of the best choices in it’s price range for running. Here we compare it to another top choice that is closely priced in 2016.  However, we do want to say, these two are not the top running treadmills on the market there are more expensive models which are higher performing.
