There are more than a few reasons we could list for its popularity

Probably the major reason (or two) has to be the size/horsepower of the motor (2.5 CHP) and the dimensions of the tread belt (exercise platform) which is 20 x 56 – inches (width x length).

Why are these two features important to point out?

These are important specifications for people wanting to buy a machine for running.  Not all treadmills are made for runners.

Either, the motor doesn’t provide enough horsepower or the dimensions of the tread belt are too small to comfortably accommodate the increased length of runner’s stride. Or both.

So to answer the question, “Why the LifeSpan TR1200i is a popular buy.”.

Not every treadmill model you come across will be able to be used for running. Many, especially the cheaper models are only good for people who want to exercise by walking. Some of these might also be able to good for a jogger’s pace.

There are two main reasons these cheaper options are built for walking and not running. First, their motors are too small and don’t produce enough horsepower. Secondly, the tread belt (exercise platform) doesn’t provide the need dimensions ( Width x Length) need for the longer strides of a runner.

In general, when looking over the many different treadmill options, what you will notice, as the size (horsepower) of the motor and the dimensions of the tread belt increase, so does the price!

Many of the big motor, big tread belt models made for runners can cost well over $1000, some of these even cost a few $1000 and up! Unfortunately, many people who would like to buy a running treadmill for their home can not afford to spend this kind of dough.

But there is some good news for people on a budget wanting to bring a treadmill into their home for the purpose of running!

There are some choices for running that may not break your bank account.

As a rule of thumb, a treadmill for running, must have both, at least a 2.5 horsepower motor and a tread belt at least 54 or 55 inches in length.

This is why the LifeSpan TR1200i treadmill is such a popular buy, it meets both required criteria and also has a price tag many people can afford. Yes, its more expensive than the cheaper models, which you can only walk, maybe jog on but the price is still reasonable.

Judging the quality of a treadmill

One of the most difficult things to do is judge the quality of cheaper running treadmills. In the reviews above where we compare the LifeSpan TR1200i to other models, we concentrate on comparing what we believe are the 5 most important features you first need to consider before buying.

  • Motor
  • Frame
  • Tread belt
  • Cushion System
  • Warranty

We know the features included on the list above are not the most exciting features to read about but these are the core features of every treadmill.

You may be interested in certain “extras or accessories“, however, we highly recommend in order to get the best quality for your money to first narrow down your choices by judging.
