LifeSpan TR 1200i – Why it wins

We will not be talking much about the “extras or accessories” included with either model here. Instead, we want to concentrate on comparing the 5 core areas:

  • Motor
  • Tread belt
  • Frame
  • Cushion System
  • Warranty

This might be the first time you have thought about buying a treadmill? If you think about the areas listed above, you probably can understand why these 5 areas are the most important areas to first consider in order to get the highest value for your money.

#1 Motor – Compared

There are two areas of a motor you will want to look at in order to get the best quality for your money and to also ensure the treadmill you buy will fit your exercise needs.

  • Style of motor
  • Amount of horsepower output

The LifeSpan TR1200i – The style is a Continuous Duty Rate Horsepower (CHP) motor with a 2.5 horsepower output

The NordicTrack T 6,5 S – The style is also a CHP but the horsepower output is slightly higher at 2.6 hp.

Both models have the right style of motor a CHP. In your search, you may come across models with a few different types of motors. We highly recommend buying a model with a CHP motor as these are the most durable and efficient.

NordicTrack T 6.5 S still a decent choice

Best For runners LifeSpan TR1200i vs NordicTrack T 6.5 S treadmill

Fitting your exercise needs. This is most important for people who want to buy a model that will allow them to run. Here, it is important to pay attention to the amount of horsepower. As a rule of thumb, if you plan to use your treadmill for running, 2.5 hp is the absolute lowest amount of horsepower output we would recommend.

Winner: NordicTrack T 6.5 S

#2 Tread belt – thickness and dimensions

The thickness of both belts is 2-ply. This is what you would expect to get at this price range. Obviously, as the belt spins, there will be normal wear and tear which can not be avoided. Eventually if you use it enough you will need to replace the belt. However, a 2-ply belt should give you years of use before you reach the point of need a replacement belt.

Dimensions. As we mentioned above about the horsepower output of the motor being an important detail for those buying a treadmill to run on the dimensions of the tread belt or exercise platform is another specification you will want to pay attention to if you plan to run.

Obviously, as we go from walking to jogging to running the length of our stride increases. If you want a treadmill model for running, unless you are an exceptionally small person, with short strides, for the average person in height, male or female to run comfortably we would recommend buying a model with a tread belt that is at least 54 to 55 – inches in length.

The tread belt dimensions of the LifeSPan TR1200i are 20 x 56 -inches (W x L).

The tread belt dimension NordicTrack T 6,5 S are 20 x 55 -inches (W x L).

Winner: LifeSpan TR1200i

#3 Frames – Compared

What are treadmill frames made of? You will come across either frames made from steel or aluminum. Which material is best?

The opinions of many different people, say, steel frames are the better option. We would agree.

For two reasons. First, steel frames fit together tighter. This tighter fit helps to decrease the noise. Aluminum frames are a bit creaky.

The second reason steel frame are preferred. Compared to the dead feeling of aluminum, steel provides a bounce to your step.

Winner: Tie

#4 Cushion Systems – Compared

LifeSpan TR2100i folding treadmill vs. the NordicTrack T 6.5 S treadmill, which is the most comfortable treadmill?

The cushion system is always a hard area to judge.

The NordicTrack has the FlexSelect cushion system.

The LifeSpan TR1200i has the support of 6 compression shock absorbers.

Winner: LifeSpan TR1200i

#5 The Warranty – Winner

The warranty of the LifeSpan TR 1200i treadmill provides:

  • Motor – lifetime
  • Frame – lifetime
  • Parts – 3 years
  • Labor – 1 year

The warranty of the NordicTrack T 6.5 S provides:

  • Motor – 25 years
  • Frame – lifetime
  • Parts – 1 year
  • Labor – 1 year

Winner: LifeSpan TR1200i

The Winner: LifeSpan TR2100i vs. the NordicTrack T 6.5 S treadmill

This is a very close call.

On one hand, the NordicTrack T 6.5 S treadmill has the motor with more horsepower (2.6 versus 2.5 hp) and normally will would say having more horsepower is one of the most important factor in choosing a treadmill, especially if you plan to use it for running. However, the difference in power is very small.

On the other hand, we feel the LifeSpan TR1200i treadmill wins in the following three areas:

  • Tread belt dimensions
  • Cushion system
  • Warranty

The two models tie in the area of frame. Both have steel frames.

These two models are very close but with everything else being equal, like PRICE we would choose the LifeSpan TR1200i.

For people on a budget wanting to get away with spending the least amount of money possible, we would recommend comparing the prices. You might find a deal on the NordicTrack T 6.5 S which is too good to pass up.
