NordicTrack T 6.5 S Treadmill Review

If you are interested but wondering about the true quality of the NordicTrack T 6.5 S Treadmill we will tell you what we like and don’t like about this machine in the following review. First, let’s us start off by making it clear this model is considered an entry-level home treadmill, one of the more affordable models manufactured by NordicTrack.

Now, when we say entry-level this doesn’t mean it’s a bad choice compared to other similarly priced models. It does provide a decent warranty and is manufactured by a well-known company and if it’s important to you this is also a folding model which has inclines. However, at the same time, there are more than few slightly higher priced choices we would recommend.

NordicTrack T 6.5 S Treadmill Review

When reviewing every model we always stress the 5 most important areas of a treadmill consumers need to examine, these are:

  • Motor
  • Frame
  • Tread Belt
  • Cushion System
  • Warranty

Rating the NordicTrack T 6.5 S Treadmill

Area #1 – The Motor

A few different styles of motors are used in the manufacturing of treadmills. The “continuous duty rated horsepower” style of motor, commonly abbreviated as CHP, is the only style we recommend as these are the most durable and efficient.

This model does include a 2.6 horsepower CHP. Is this powerful enough for runners? Normally the smallest amount of horsepower we will recommend to a runner wanting to buy a home treadmill is 2.5. With that being said, yes this can support running but it’s at the lower end of the running world. It’s maximum speed is 10 MPH which would be a 6 minute mile pace.

Area #2 – The Frame

Treadmill frames are commonly made from either aluminum or steel. For more than a couple reasons, steel frames are the better choice. This model’s frame is made from steel. The user weight capacity is 300 lbs.

Area #3 – Tread Belt

The belt is fairly thick and fairly durable about what you would expect at this price range. Another important thing to consider are the dimensions of the belt especially if you are planning to run or jog on the machine.

The dimensions are 20 -inches width by 55 – inches long. When recommending a model to a runner the absolute shortest belt length we would recommend buying is 55 – inches. So just like the motor the belt is at the lower end of the spectrum for running models.

Area #4 – Cushion System

NordicTrack does a good job with cushion systems. In it’s price range we would rate the comfort provided by this model near or at the top.  The review video show above speaks on the system a bit at the beginning.

The system has two settings. One is provides maximum cushion. The second provides a feeling of running outside on the pavement. The system is activated manually by turning a structure underneath the deck of the treadmill.

Area #5 – Warranty

When buying a treadmill do not ignore the warranty as it is important to know what type of guarantee is provided if something goes wrong and it’s also a good when to judge the true quality of a machine.

The best treadmill warranties provide lifetime guarantees on both the motor and frame and then a couple years on parts and labors. If you are spending near or over $1000 you should expect to receive a lifetime guarantee on both the motor and frame. Currently in 2016 when writing this review the NordicTrack T 6.5 S Treadmill was priced in the $600 range.

This model provides a lifetime warranty on the frame, 25-years on the motor and 1-year on parts and labor. Not the best overall on the market but considering the affordable price of this model this is a decent warranty.

Anything we don’t like about the NordicTrack T 6.5 S model

You get what you pay for. This is an entry-level affordable treadmill. If this is what your budget allows then for the money this decent choice to consider at this price point. If you could bare to speed a little more there are other treadmills we would recommend especially if you are looking for a home treadmill to run on.

While the motor is the CHP style we recommend some runners may want and need a little more horsepower for a higher speed and increased pace above 10 MPH. See 12 MPH options. Another aspect of the model which we felt was a bit of a negative or weakness we felt it was a bit noisy, although this could be related to the specific model we had tested.
