List of the best folding treadmills

There are both advantages and disadvantages to owning a folding treadmill. The obvious advantage, space saving. The main reason for their popularity.

Another advantage, on average, they are less expensive compared to non folding models with similar quality and features provided.

The main disadvantages may not be as obvious. The quality of  folding treadmills have improved over the years. But still, the main disadvantages are seen in stability, weight capacity and durability when compared to non folding counterparts.

This is not to say folding models are horribly unstable or will fall a part. Inherent to their design, they are just not as stable or as durable, when compared to traditional non-folding treadmills.

There are a number of models to choose from at a range of prices. Below is a list of the best folding treadmills, maximizing the advantages and minimizing the disadvantages.

What are the top folding models

Starting with the most expensive, working down to the less expensive models:

3G folding treadmill

3G Cardio 80i Fold Fat Treadmill

The 3G Cardio 80i Fold Fat Treadmill (Price: $1699) is the most expensive model on our list. This high quality machine, as the name suggests, folds-up flat just as the name suggests (see image). In fact, it’s so compact, if you needed it can be stored under the bed.

However, not only does it provide a superior space saving design but this is also a high performance model with a 3.0 horsepower (h.p.) motor, huge, almost 60 inch running platform and incline controls.

The model is highly stable and durable. Great for runners, walkers, and joggers. If it’s in your price range it’s definitely worth your consideration.

In the above image we wanted to show you how compact this model can be made for storage and space saving. Below we want you to see how it looks when in use.

Our next two models are both manufactured by the same company. These are the LifeSpan Fitness TR3000i (Price: $1400and the  LifeSpan TR1200i Treamill (Price: $999) both are highly rated, receiving excellent reviews from customers.

On our homepage, you will see the TR1200i model, the less expensive of these two LifeSpan models is rated as our best overall choice for under $1000.

Comparing the overall quality of the LifeSpan TR3000i Vs. TR1200i these are very similar in quality. However, there’s a reason why one costs $1400 and the other $999.

LifeSpan TR 1200i

While being very similar in qualities of build and design. The more expensive TR3000i is a bit more extensive in features provided.

It also provides a slightly larger more powerful motor and a running surface. Making it a slightly better choice for runners.

Looking to spend less – under $1000?

So far, above we have listed models with prices ranging from $1699 – $999. Wondering if any cheaper but decent folding treadmill options exist? There are a few we would recommend.

But you also need to understand, treadmills are not meant to be built cheaply. We have some recommendation in mind but realize finding a quality machine for under $1000 is not the easiest thing. Realize these will not included many of the comforts of the higher priced models.

If you visit our homepage, you can scroll through the models recommended, you will find the highest rated, most if not all of these are models with the ability to fold. Or you can see our list below with links to reviews of these different models.

Back a few years living in a small apartment, I wanted to buy a treadmill. My parents have a huge treadmill in their basement. It’s a great model but the thing is absolutely monstrous.

Due to the lack of space in my apartment, I knew a model like my parents had would not be a smart choice. I needed something more compact. The only real option for me was a folding treadmill.

I did a lot of research before I finally settled for the Horizon Fitness T101-04 Treadmill. In 2013, I paid around $750, I believe it now sells for around $650.

About buying a folding treadmill for home fitness

As we mentioned at the beginning of this review, there are certain advantages and disadvantages when considering a folding treadmill.

Obviously, the ability to fold gives them the advantage of being space saving. Generally, when compared to non-folding models with the same features they are less expensive.

There are also a few disadvantages to consider. Although, over the past few years the designs have improved, folding compared to non-folding models are generally less stable and durable and usually have a lower weight capacity.

This is not said to turn you off from buying such a model. The models we have recommended here perform very well in all these different categories. We only mention this because there are definitely some folding models you will want to stay away from. Make sure you do your research and feel free to ask a question in the comments section below.
