The Weslo Crosswalk 5.2T Treadmill – A good choice for home?

Weslo Crosswalk 5.2T Treadmill reviewUnderstand what the Weslo Crosswalk 5.2T Treadmill is before you buy. Let’s start off by first explaining what this model is not. The first thing that you must understand is this is not a high-performance model. This is not something you want to buy if your exercise plans include running.

Don’t make this mistake. You may have read on other reviews or in the product description that this Weslo treadmill is capable of reaching a top speed of 10 miles per hour. OK, this is true and yes, 10 miles per hour is a runner’s pace. While all true, you would be making a mistake if you brought this model for the purpose of running. Why?

The motor is 2.25 horsepower which is quite small and low in torque. Besides the motor being small, the tread belt at 16 x 50 – inches (W x L) is also smallish. In order for a motor of this size to run at top speed (10 MPH) the revolutions per minute (RPM’s) will drastically increase compared to a larger more powerful motor.

What does this ultimately mean? Can you say breakdown? This motor doesn’t have the durability to withstand running at top speed. So don’t do it.

Looking for an affordable treadmill for running?

What is it then?

Now that we have told you what the Welso Crosswalk 5.2 Treadmill is not made for, let’s talk about what it actually is made for. This is a simple budget model and for the most part is best suited for a person who wants something in their house that will allow them to exercise by walking. It can provide a brisk walking pace, maybe even a jogger’s pace for some individuals.

The following video provides and excellent view of the treadmill and how it operates:

 Weslo Crosswalk 5.2T Treadmill Review

Although this is not a high performance machine there are some positives. The video does a good job demonstrating how the machine operates. However, one thing the video does not show is this is also a folding treadmill. Which might be important to some who have space restrictions. As seen in the picture above this is able to be folded up and then pushed out of the way or maybe into a closet for storage. This is also useful when you need to sweep the floor underneath.

For weight loss. While we certainly wouldn’t recommend this machine for marathon training, however, it could be effective for those looking for a budget machine they can use to reach their weight loss and overall fitness goals. Besides being able to provide a brisk walking pace, in the video above you should have also noticed it includes adjustable bars you can grip to add upper-body resistance to your work-out, which will further increase your metabolism for weight loss compared to walking alone. So yes, this machine could be labelled as a budget cross trainer.

It also provides a heart rate sensor for those you want to measure their heart rate when exercising.

The Bottom Line

As we said, the Weslo Crosswalk 5.2T Treadmill is not a model you should buy if you want something to run on. If you need something affordable for running – see our recommendations.

While we do think if properly maintained and used correctly this model can provide value. But we definitely will not say this is a high quality treadmill. It’s not. This is an inexpensive machine. If saving money is your priority you should be able to get a decent number of years of use out of it but don’t expect it to last over the long term.
