Tread Belt Quality

When trying to assess the quality of the LifeSpan TR 1200i Folding Treadmill or any other model, there are five core features that you must look at and one of these is the tread belt or running platform which we will assess here. The other four most important features are:

  • Motor
  • Frame
  • Cushion System
  • Warranty

These are the areas you must inform yourself of in order to make the best buying decision. Don’t pay attention to the extras like exercise programs and other accessories before you understand these five crucial areas.

Tread belt – quality and dimensions

As the heading above mentions, there are two main areas of concern when judging a tread belt:

  • What’s it made out of? How is it constructed?
  • Dimensions (length x width) is it big enough?

Belt Construction

The belt installed on the LifeSpan TR 1200i Treadmill is a 2-ply urethane belt this is fairly typical for models in this price range. These are more durable and have a longer life time than the 1-ply belts often found on cheaper models

There are what is know as 3-ply belts which are normally found on higher-end machines. Common sense would led a person to believe since these are thicker vs. 2-ply that they are also more durable. While this is true the difference isn’t that great. However, “heat dissipation” is one advantage of 2-ply belts get rid of heat at a much quicker rate. Overall, this reduces the overall stress on the machine.

Another positive, when in use the belt runs over wide rollers which not only improves the overall functioning of the machine but also helps reduce stress, ultimately extending the lifetime of the belt.

Tread Belt Dimensions

The dimensions are 20 x 56 inches (width x length). The 20 inch width is satisfactory for both runners and walkers. As far as the length goes, the 56-inches in length should work for anyone’s stride length when walking and jogging. Obviously, length is most important to people who plan to use the LifeSpan TR 1200i Folding Treadmill for running.

Long enough for running? Since everyone has a different stride length this is a trickier question to answer. As a rule of thumb, for a person of average height, we recommend at least a belt that is 55-inches in length. However, if you are a person over 6-2 in height or if you know you have stride much longer than the average person you may want to consider a model with a longer track.

Overall Quality

The overall quality is acceptable and very similar to other models in this price range, even some of the more expensive models will have belts with about the same overall quality rating. The only concern, if you are a taller person (height over 6-2) or have an extremely long stride the length of the belt when running might be an issue. However, we expect this would be enough room for the majority of people.
